Okay, this book is incredible. As John Green commented in The New York Times Book Review, it reminds you of “what it’s like to be young and in love with a book.” At some point it appears that I had forgotten how just utterly delightful reading young adult literature can be. I devoured this book in two nights and just loved every second. I cried at the end and in the middle and in the beginning. From an enjoying a great book standpoint, it was amazing.
Eleanor and Park was just absolutely precious and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick escape. It’s simple, sweet, and so utterly captures the essence of young love. The obstacles the characters are faced with are complex, and Rowell does a great job of showing the struggle and confusion that they deal with as young people. It’s like simplifying it and complicating it at the same time. Rowell did it with grace, care, and love.
I just can’t say enough good things about Eleanor and Park, so I’m just going to leave it at this: if you love love, or young adult literature, read this book. Also, I can’t wait to get my hands on everything else Rowell has ever written!
